What Inspires You?
The
public art component of the Maplewood Mall will offer space for Germantown
visual artists to be part of the project.
If you are an
artist living or working in Germantown, or associated with a Germantown arts
organization, studio space or gallery, we hope you'll consider contributing!
The
wood grain ceramic tiles on the top surface of the knee walls will bend over
the edge onto the vertical portion of the wall. This skirt/ribbon across the
vertical surfaces will include 16 ceramic medallions designed by local
Germantown artists.
Submit
your idea for a medallion:
What person, place,
thing or event from Germantown and its history inspires you?Send us:
1.
A description of something from Germantown that inspires
you and 2.
How you might evoke it in an 8" x 10" image. Send a sketch or
image to give a sense of the image/composition that you're thinking of.
Sixteen artists will be
selected by a jury that will include members of Germantown's creative community. The
selected artists will be asked to create a more formal/final drawing or image
that will be made into a ceramic tile. Artists may make the tiles themselves in
a workshop that will be offered to those who are interested, or they may just
submit a drawing that will be made into a tile for them.
A $200 stipend will
be given to each of the final artists once their design
is complete and the tile has been created. Artists will be recognized in the
credits for the project.
If you are
interested in submitting your idea, send your written concept and a rough
sketch of the composition/image you would use to evoke your inspiration
to jshanker1@gmail.com before February 30, 2020.
